The research paper entitled “The Use of Small Group Interaction in Teaching Speaking” was conducted based on Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is designed into two cycles which consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting, and there were four actions in every cycle. The research discusses the English learning process in the classroom by using small group to improve the students’ speaking ability, the students’ dynamic in small group, and to find out the advantages and disadvantages of using small group.
The researcher used small group and role playing, because it was one of teaching and learning concept that supports teacher and especially the students to deepen their social interaction and communication in their own group.
There were four observers during the research. The data were collected by conducting observation, test, and interview. The research result showed that the use of small group interaction in teaching speaking gave many positive effects in teaching learning process. It can be seen from the students’ improvement on their speaking test score, the students’ behavior in the group, and the interview with the observers and the students.
